Service is a mindset, a way of thinking. Phil. 2:5 instructs us to have the same mind as Christ. In Phil. 2:7, we read that Jesus emptied Himself and took on the form of a servant. The mindset of a servant includes the following:
T – Thinks of Others More – A servant chooses to meet the needs of others more than he thinks of his own wants and needs. Are you more concerned with having your needs met or with finding ways to serve others and meet their needs?
H – Hopes for an Opportunity – Servants are outward and others focused, looking for opportunities to help others. Knowing that service is the highest use of one’s life, a servant watches for opportunities and ways to serve.
I – Identity in Christ – Because they are loved by Christ, they do not feel like they have to earn His favor or earn their worth through serving. They serve out of His love for them and their love for Him. They will do what-ever is asked of them, great or small.
N – No Recognition or Reward – Serv-ants are willing to serve whether someone knows or not. They do not serve for praise or to be recognized. They serve to please and honor God. Are you serving to be special or to be useful?
K – Keeps Working – Real servants are busy too busy to compare, complain, or criticize. They don’t think about what others are doing, because they are shaped to do what they are doing. Are you looking at your work or other workers?
S – Stewardship – In the Bible, a steward was someone entrusted with the owner’s belongings or estate. Servants realize all we have comes from God and belongs to Him. What has God entrusted to you? How are you handling those things?
