Looking into a new year with our study of the Gospel of Matthew together, we’re inviting our entire church family into something deeper than a teaching series. This is a season to develop spiritual rhythms—holy habits that shape who we are in Christ and how we live each day.

Spiritual growth isn’t accidental. It happens when we consistently place ourselves where God has promised to work: in His Word, in prayer, in community, in worship, and in serving others through the gifts He provides. These rhythms open our hearts to God’s ongoing transformation.

Below are four essential rhythms we’re encouraging everyone to practice.

1. Daily Bible Reading & Prayer

God speaks through His Word, and prayer shapes our hearts in response. A steady rhythm of Scripture and prayer helps us grow in wisdom, trust, and obedience.

To help you stay consistent, we’re walking through the Gospel of Matthew together using a simple reading plan (Matthew 1–13). As you read each day, ask the Lord to guide, teach, and form you through His Word.
Key Scriptures:
• “Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
• “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
Stay consistent:

2. Weekly Group Bible Study

We grow best in community. Sunday School classes are more than lessons—they are places to be known, encouraged, challenged, and prayed for.
In groups we share life, process Scripture together, ask questions, and support each other in living out the truth. These environments help us apply God’s Word personally and practically.
Key Scriptures:
• “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
• “Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you…” (Colossians 3:16)

3. Weekly Worship

Worship gathers us as one body in God’s presence. On Sundays, the Spirit reorients our hearts—comforting the weary, strengthening the weak, correcting our drift, and uniting us around the same mission.

This shared “body-life” matters: we hear the same Word, lift the same prayers, and remember that following Jesus is not a solo journey. Worship forms us into a people who love God deeply and love one another well.

Key Scriptures:

  • “Let us consider one another… not neglecting to gather together.” (Hebrews 10:24–25)
  • “Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.” (Psalm 95:6)
Worship is where the rhythm begins each week. From this shared life flows everything else—including our service.

4. Serving Others

Worship forms us—service sends us.

Every believer is uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit. Your gifts, experiences, skills, and compassion are not random; they are intentional tools God uses to build His church and advance His mission.

Serving is Spirit-empowered ministry, not mere volunteering. Whether you teach, welcome, encourage, pray, lead, repair, give, or care, your service strengthens the body and reflects the heart of Jesus.

Key Scriptures:
  • “A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)
  • “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” (Mark 10:45)

If every believer at FBC serves according to their spiritual gifting, we will experience unity, joy, and effectiveness in God’s purpose.

Why These Rhythms Matter

These are not tasks to check off—they are pathways of transformation. As we commit to daily Scripture and prayer, meaningful group study, faithful worship, and Spirit-filled service, we create space for God to do what only He can do.

Imagine hundreds of believers growing together with the same heartbeat and mission. Imagine what God will do in our church, our families, and our community as we walk in these rhythms together.
