Following Jesus

We were created to know God in a personal way and
to have a relationship with him, through His Son, Jesus.

How does a person have a relationship with God?

The answer is through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus stated that the reason he came was to give us life and an abundant life. We are given life and eternal life upon our encounter and belief in Jesus. Eternity is not based on how good we are or the good things we do. It’s about what He has done for you.

Step 1

Understand that god loves you and wants a relationship with you.

Throughout the Bible, there are examples of God establishing relationships with individuals and showing His steadfast love to them. He gave them instructions on how to relate to him and to others.

Step 2

Realize that you are a sinner.

When someone did not follow those instructions or laws, it was called sin. God’s instructions were to offer sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins. This offering of sacrifices had to be done over and over again. Then God changed that. Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23

In a world where we earn things, it is easy to think we can earn God’s favor or our way into heaven. The truth is our sinful nature separates us from God, and we cannot fix that.Eph. 2:8-9

Step 3

Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.

God sent Jesus to die on the cross as the final sacrifice for all sin for all time. He was the substitute for our sins. Jesus’ sacrifice can fix our sinful nature. John 3:16-17  Hebrews 7:27

Step 4

Repent of your sin and accept the gift of salvation by faith.

When a person admits his or her sinfulness and believes that Jesus is the Son of God who died for his or her sins, that person is forgiven and becomes a Christ follower by faith. Romans 10:9-10

Step 5

Express your heartfelt trust in Jesus Christ.

Sincerely pray this prayer or one similar:

Lord, I understand that I have sinned and broken your laws. Please forgive me. I understand that I could never be good enough to earn my way to heaven. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died for me on the cross, taking the punishment for all my sins. I commit my life to following Jesus as my Lord and Savior and to learning his ways. Thank you for your love for me and your sacrifice for me. Amen.
