Operation Christmas Child

Shoebox Dedication Sunday is November 12!
Ways to Give
What is OCC?

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

It started with a call in 1993 to a Franklin Graham from a man in England asking if he would be willing to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in war torn Bosnia. That year they sent 28,000 shoeboxes to the children in the Balkins. Since 1993 more than 209 million children in over 170 countries and territories have received an OCC shoebox.

Volunteer at Processing Center

We have scheduled our OCC Atlanta Warehouse workday for Friday, December 1. Before the millions of shoebox gifts collected each year can bring hope and joy to children around the world, each one has to be carefully inspected and made ready for international shipment by volunteers. Tens of thousands of volunteers serve annually at shoebox processing centers across the United States. We have 14 slots open. If anyone would like to participate, please contact Diana Thomas. Box in a Bag

If you want to make a box but don’t want to go to the store, consider purchasing a Box in a Bag. For $25, you get everything that can go in a box in a bag. You can make the box yourself, or we can make it for you. The cost includes the shipping. Ordering is open from September 8 through November 6.

Join us for prep day!

On Thursdays, we have OCC prep days in the Fellowship Hall. Anyone who wants to volunteer for OCC this year, please join. We will use this time to organize the school supplies, and put boxes together while having fun and enjoying fellowship with one another! If you would like more information or to volunteer, please contact us. If you want to come to an OCC prep day, please find the list of upcoming meeting dates below. (There are some Thursdays, we will not meet).

Upcoming Prep Day Meetings:
Sept. 28 from 1-3 p.m.

Drop-off Center Volunteers

Shoebox Collection Week is November 13-20.
On Monday, Nov. 13 volunteers will begin packing the boxes into large cartons and transporting them to the Distribution Center. The Drop Off Center needs volunteers from Nov. 13-20 to help get the boxes from the cars/trucks, counting, praying, cartonizing, etc. We would appreciate any time you can help us during our hours of operation. If you’d like to volunteer, please click to button above.
