Senior Adults

Senior Adults

Senior Adults (ages 55 to 105) are an active group at First Baptist Church on the Square!

Now called Grow Groups, Sunday School classes, weekly Bible studies, and other special purpose studies are open to all and help us grow through the Word of God. Merrymakers monthly luncheons, open to seniors from First Baptist and other community churches, are a time for enjoying fellowship, a great program–usually musical or humorous, and a delicious lunch for only $5.00 per person.  First Baptist seniors also take the Opportunity to Serve their Church and community in a multitude of ministries.

At First Baptist Church on the Square, seniors
COME for worship, encouragement, and fellowship,
GROW in the Lord, and
SHARE Christ and their service to Him with others.

We have Grow Groups (Bible Studies) for senior adults. Most meet on Sundays. Some meet during the week and via Zoom. Seniors are also very welcome to join any curriculum-driven Bible studies, which are multi-generational and usually meet on Wednesday nights. The pastor also leads a Bible study and prayer time on Wednesday nights at 6:15 p.m. in the Christian Family Life Center. For a list of current groups, look at our Grow Groups Listing and scroll down the page for the adult Grow Groups.

Tuesday’s Table prior to Covid

Seniors participate in many facets of church life at First Baptist, serving as greeters, church supper servers, bereavement committee members, teachers, and more. Some of the service opportunities where our seniors are involved include Tuesday’s Table soup kitchen as seen above, Meals on Wheels, Helping Hands light construction ministry, and the community food closet and clothing center. Seniors are actively sharing their time, talents, and the love of Christ with others.

Merrymakers is a group of senior adults from our church and the community, who meet each third Thursday of the month for a luncheon and a program. Attendance averages 120-150 each month.

This active group also packs hundreds of Operation Christmas Child boxes and does an annual Hospice Pantry collection. Hopefully in 2023, the group can also plan trips once again.
